Second Life has TIME

TIME Magazine did a story about Second Life.... and got it wrong.
So wrong. Sure there's sex in SL, but there's sooooo much more to it.

Google leaves Second Life

Google fails in Second Life
Wednesday,11 February 2009, 08:04 hrs IST

Bangalore: Google's foray into the Second Life through 'Lively' has culminated to be a botched attempt. The internet giant made a polite exit on 31st December, terming the whole thing to be an experiment.

'Lively', an online world which gained popularity as it exempted the users from any hassle of payment to create an account, didn't have an advertising solution barring the search engine from generating any revenue from its online world. As a competitor it also lacked the necessary tools to facilitate users in generating their own content in the site. The limited tools provided to the users were mostly used for sex and violence in the most popular rooms, reports Mint. The players were also not satisfied with the watered-down number of movements and action options that Lively gave compared to the complicated massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) and Second Life. The online world did not have enough habitants with users frequently making an exit, resulting in erasing every chance to convert the number of members into a revenue stream.

Wife dumps husband after second life sex

Gay sex while his wife slept

By Nick Farrell @ Monday, February 09, 2009 6:50 AM

A wife has dumped her husband after she caught him having virtual sex with another man while in bed while she snoozed beside him.

According to the News of the World, Lisa Best of Derby woke up and saw John, 34, having gay dungeon romps in Second Life on his laptop in bed. When she screamed at him, John just brushed it away. He said it wasn’t real life and didn't know what she was going on about.

Lisa said she couldn’t sleep for the rest of the night, wondering whether this meant he was betraying her or not. Apparently they had not had sex for six months.

Next day she cracked into his computer and read his emails and discovered that there were loads of screen shots of John's avatar having gay sex and wandering round a nudist beach with a whip in his hand and blindfolded. The avatar's name was Troy Hammerthall and he hung around at a place called the Bondage Ranch.

Lisa said that she kicked him out of the house after four years of marrage.

John told the News of the World that he was not gay, and said he was fighting to save his marriage. He said that Second Life was just an escape. X

Linden Lab snaps up Second Life stores

Linden Lab, the creator of Second Life, has announced its acquisition of two web-based marketplaces for virtual goods, Xstreet SL and OnRez.

The two websites, which sold in-game items to Second Life users, are to be consolidated in order to make it easier for Second Life shoppers to find virtual goods. According to Linden Lab, the global market for virtual goods is now USD 1.5 billion, of which Second Life accounts for USD 360 million.

Teen grid merger cont.....

A post on the SLC blog by Tepic has brought up a good point:

"I would be quite worried if I was playing an adult AV, because I would never know if that rather stunning person I just met, with the wonderful eyes and a body to kill for was actually under age in rl. It could get some people in big trouble very quickly."

My reaction to this is that LL had better invest in some good lawyers.

Can you say Myspace?

Myspace is known to be open to all peoples of all ages. Now they are cracking down on pedophiles and harassment lawsuits. So now SL is going to be for all ages. So yes, parents be aware of this fact.
Now how do you protect your child?

Another thing ocoured to me a while back. What is stopping underage RL kids from getting into SL anyway? Think about other ways kids can get IDs other than a drivers lisince.

Yes, I know my spelling is crap. I've got Lindens having sex on my keyboard. :O

New 1.22 Test Viewer: RC9 Now Available

The tenth iteration of the 1.22 Viewer, Release Candidate (RC) 9, has been released!

If you’ve been using RC8, you will be required to update to RC9, which may be installed along side the official 1.21 viewer. Please keep in mind that participation in the viewer Release Candidate cycle is entirely optional.

You can find the rest of this @

Our Lindens, who art in the Labs,
Hallowed be thy prims.
Thy Grid-dom come, thy will be done,
On sims, as it is in The Preview.
Give us this day our daily crash,
And forgive us our Spammery.
As we forgive those, who greif against us
And lead us not, into private parcels.

Teen grid merger.

I wake up this morning and find a message sent by a Badwolf Barbosa who owns the sim for the Furvana furry club. A great place to hang out.

Message as follows:

Teen and Main Grid merging
Tue Feb 10 00:25:46 2009

From what I have read and listened to, Linden Lab plans on merging the Main Grid with the Teen grid. They have not set a def. date for this but they are moving in that direction. This will seriously impact ALL SIMs with Mature content.

There are URLs included in the attached Note Card with the interview and blogs or digests.

Avoid the rush. Do Age Verification now and be ahead of the game.

Attached to said message is a note card:

Plurk from one of the LL insiders (not sure which Linden this is)

I would agree with this idea to get signed up. I'm already signed from about Easter of last year and it's a good thing.

I'll keep you posted on this development. In the meantime, you know the age verification info down below. Follow the directions and you won't have any problems.

Age Verification

Recently Furvana, a furry dance club, has had problems with under age persons going online in their parents accounts or sign on to SL when they should be on the teen grid.

Age verification means that Linden Labs knows for sure how old you are and that you are of legal age, over 18, to be on the main grid.

The above pic shows a table with three boxes that contained note cards that run you through the age verification process. I will post those note cards below so that you can see that process.

Reminder - Age Verification starts Feb 1
Sat Jan 31 19:21:57 2009

If you have not age Verified, you will not be able to get into Furvana. This will NOT affect Wolfmont SIM or the Moonlit Paw Shopping area.

If you are unsure about your status, check your account on the SecondLife Web site and choose the Age Verification link. The process takes less than 5 mins. The data does NOT go through Linden Labs - it is done by a 3rd party so your info is safe. If you need more info, there is an Info Desk right outside of the club, Click the cubes for notecards.

To protect us AND you!

It comes down to this - We offer Adult Content, including content that can be considered sexual in nature. Laws are still being tested all over the world on what is and what is not adult material and what is and is not legal. We have to adhere to US Laws - specificly the laws of California where Linden Labs is based. Because of this, we can not allow anyone under the age of 18 to view or participate in any activity of a sexual or suggestive nature.

I've heard lots of arguments for and against the verification system. The truth is this - no system is 100% perfect. There will be faults in any system, but this is the best we have right now.

This is to protect YOU and US.

Thank you for your help and understanding!
